currently on my needles: sun hat (pattern made up in my head as follows) (although you probably shouldn’t follow it until we see hoe it comes out):
using lily sugar and cream cotton on size 8 double pointed needles (once it was big enough, i switched to circulars)
cast on 8 sts, 2 sts per needle.
round 1: knit
r2: yo, k1, rep to end of row
r3 and all odd rows until brim, knit
r4: yo, k2 rep to end of ro
r6: yo,k3 rep to end of row.
continue increasing in this fashion until you have 80 sts on needle (at this point i switched to circulars)
After knit row after reaching 80 sts, continue as follows:
r1: yo, k8, k2tog
r2: knit
Continue for 3 inches (appx 25-30 rows), switch to size 6 circular needles and work 6 more rows as above.
At this point, i placed markers every 10 sts right before the y/o. (you should have 8 markers)
Brim:
r1: y/o, knit to marker, y/o, knit to marker…continue until brim is desired width. I did not do a knit row every other row for the brim, just continued with the y/o each row.
haven’t finished it yet, but likely here’s what i’ll be doing:
when brim is desired width, do not cast off. run a wire through the sts on the circular needles and remove needle. Stretch brim as far as it will go and tape wire together at end, and then I’ll probably crochet a scalloped edging over the wire.
and then i just have to figure out how to starch it :)
